On the heels of news that BTS‘ World Tour Love Yourself in Seoul film would become the “largest event cinematic release ever,” the ante just jumped even higher with the band’s concert movie getting an extended run thanks to ScreenX theaters.
Billboard can exclusively share that BTS World Tour Love Yourself in Seoul will be available in ScreenX format on Jan. 26, for a two-week run. In addition to the previously announced one-day screening in traditional 2D movie format, fans have up to two more weeks to experience BTS’ Love Yourself show via ScreenX’s uniquely immersive showing that includes a 270-degree, panoramic viewing experience utilizing both the center and side walls of movie theaters.
“We are very excited to be bringing the new theater concert experience BTS World Tour Love Yourself in Seoul to ScreenX,” said JongRyul Kim, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX, the Seoul-based cinema technology company that created ScreenX and other immersive film experiences. “This film brings music fans around the world one step closer to experiencing a private concert experience.”
Previous to Love Yourself in Seoul, fellow K-pop act TWICE brought their Twiceland concert movie to ScreenX theaters in December 2018. Billboard noted in a review that “delivering K-pop concerts and performances via ScreenX theaters makes sense as the groups tend to have a higher number of bandmembers and can feature more consistent closeups.”
Fans around the world should look out for Love Yourself in Seoul to be available for viewing in both the traditional and ScreenX-equipped theaters in the previously announced 95 countries and territories, with the ScreenX viewing schedule to run up to two weeks in most of the territories.
