The idea of BTS breaking records has almost become a broken record in the best way possible. “Fake Love” is officially the biggest 24-hour debut of 2018 and the third biggest 24-hour debut of all time.
The septet currently holds their title as the K-pop group with the most YouTube views in 24 hours. According to YouTube, “Fake Love” amassed 35.9 million views in a single day, outdoing their previous record with “DNA” at 22.3 million views. BTS now holds two spots on the top 10 list of 24-hour debuts with “Fake Love” at No. 3 and “DNA” at No. 9.
When “Fake Love” dropped on May 18, it racked up 4.8 million views in its first hour. As a sign of ARMY’s persistence throughout the day, the hashtag #StreamFakeLoveNow served as a rallying call that trended worldwide for several hours on May 18 and 19. At press time, the view count jumped up to 68 million.
BTS also set a new record for most likes in a single day in YouTube history as “Fake Love” garnered a whopping 3.9 million likes on May 18. The K-pop phenoms also hold the second and third slots when it comes to most single-day likes with “DNA” at No. 2 with 2.3 million likes and “MIC Drop (Remix)” with 2.3 million likes.
“Fake Love” skyrocketed past “Hello” by Adele, “Sua Cara” by Major Lazer and “Despacito (Remix)” by Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” continues to reign at the top of the pack with 43.2 million views in a single day. “DNA” previously knocked Swift’s “Bad Blood” out of the sixth spot at the time.
But in classic Bangtan style, the accomplishments didn’t stop with YouTube views.
“Fake Love” achieved what’s called a “certified all-kill,” meaning it hit No. 1 across all Korean real-time charts at the same time. Soompi reports that “Fake Love” hit No. 1 across 52 different regions on iTunes — meanwhile their hotly anticipated album, Love Yourself: Tear, topped the iTunes Top Albums charts in 65 different regions
BTS also surpassed 9 million followers on V Live, a Korean streaming platform frequented by K-pop idols. BTS has the most-followed account on V Live, followed by EXO with 5.5 million followers.
