On Thursday (Sept. 14), the act released a minute-long video for their new song “DNA.” The clip reveals a quick soundbite of the track, and offers up glimpse of the accompanying choreography.
Beginning with Jungkook’s lackadaisical “Kill Em With Kindness”-esque whistling, the teaser has BTS’ youngest member join the rest of the band and stare directly into the camera as the song’s pulsating drum line and dynamic strings kick in. Once the music starts, the septet shows off a few seconds of the shuffling dance moves that will be tied into performances of “DNA.”
The short clip also offers up a quick look at the style of the boy band for this latest era, with the members decked out in casual outfits that correlate to the white and rainbow hues featured on album images revealed yesterday when the BBMA winning act revealed the album’s tracklist.
The trailer for “DNA” is the latest in a lengthy slew of images and videos released as part of the promotions leading up to the album’s release on Sept. 18. The nine-track work features “Best of Me,” co-written by The Chainsmokers‘ Andrew Taggart as well as a track titled “Skit: Billboard Music Awards Speech,” referring to the band’s win at the BBMAs in May. Little is known about the rest of the album’s production or musical direction, though fans on social media have surmised that “DNA” references not only deoxyribonucleic acid, the building blocks for life, but also is used in Korean slang to mean “Did Not Answer.”
Love Yourself: Her is the first release tied into BTS’ new thematic era, Love Yourself, which the group revealed last month.
As the highest-ranking K-pop act on the Billboard 200, BTS has seen major success internationally, and has a particularly dedicated social media following. The band took home the Top Social Artist award at the BBMAs in May, beating out the likes of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.
