Expectations were high when the Recording Academy nominated BTS’ Love Yourself: Tear album in the Best Recording Package category at the 2019 Grammy Awards. But as the ceremony got underway in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 10), the HuskyFox directed artwork, credited to Doohee Lee, lost out to that of St. Vincent’s Masseduction, crafted by art director Willo Perron.
A major moment for representation and an amazing feat to be recognized by the stateside awards show regardless of its loss, Love Yourself: Tear is the first ever Korean album to be recognized in any category by the Recording Academy. Even though it was passed over in favor of another album, BTS’ fan ARMY are reacting with pride to the news. They’re also excited for the upcoming night’s appearance of BTS, who are the first-ever Korean act to present an award at the Grammys.
Fans have spent much of the day celebrating BTS’ historic Grammys appearance and the album’s nomination, leading to the the hashtag “Tear It Up BTS” trending worldwide on Twitter. Following the news of Tear‘s loss, many took to using the hashtag as a way to express their emotions.
Here’s some of what ARMY had to say:
One of the most touching things I’ve seen is the amount of tattoos ARMY has gotten using the LY artwork & designs.
Thank you to HuskyFox/Doohee Lee for gifting us with such meaningful art, etched (literally–) onto us forever! ????? ??????!#TearItUpBTS
