Nominations for the annual BT Digital Music Awards, to presented Oct. 2 at the Roundhouse in north London, were unveiled today.
Muse won for their official and unofficial sites last year and they are nominated again this time, for best indie/rock artist and artist of the year. The other nominees in the artist of the year category are Bloc Party, Funeral For A Friend, Natasha Bedingfield, Razorlight and Rhianna.
Competing for the best music store award are 7digital, Beatport, Bleep.com, eMusic and iTunes.
Other acts with nominations include Klaxons, Manic Street Preachers, Hard-Fi, Just Jack and Chemical Brothers. Categories include best podcast, best mobile campaign and best official music site.
Of the 20 awards being presented, 12 categories are open to the public vote. The final result will be determined by a combination of the online vote and the judges’ verdict.
“The field of digital music continues to grow and grow and with it so have the BT Digital Music Awards,” comments Gavin Patterson, BT’s managing director of Consumer, in a statement. “The level and quality of entries this year reflects how important digital platforms are to music artists – we’re looking forward to see who the winners will be.”
Online votes can be cast at www.btdma.com. Organizers say more than half a million votes were received last year.
Categories decided by the judging panel alone include best digital service, with nominations for MSN Live Earth, We7, Yahoo! Music U.K. and Ireland, theJazz and Now Play It.
The ceremony will also be televised on national terrestrial broadcaster Channel 4.
