“He’s the guy you want when you go into the studio, because he knows how to make a hit record,” SESAC senior VP of writer/publisher relations Trevor Gale said when introducing songwriter/producer Bryan-Michael Cox on Sunday (Jan. 26) during the 10th annual SESAC Bryan-Michael Cox Pre-Grammy Brunch at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.
“I remember when Bryan came to me with the idea. It seems like it was three weeks ago, not 10 years ago,” Gale continued. “We’re very proud and thankful that the amount of time has gone by in such a positive and productive way. We’re all here doing our thing in the music industry, as we all know is extremely fickle and difficult to stay afloat in.”
Held just hours before the evening’s Grammy Awards at Staples Center, the packed brunch drew numerous artists and songwriters, including Geri Allen, Nikhil Seetharam, Marsha Ambrosius, Jerry “Wonder” Duplessis, Stephanie Hanvey, Algebra Blessett, J.Que Smith, Mylah Windham and Christopher “Deep” Henderson.

The pre-Grammy Sunday brunch also attracted such actresses as Vivica A. Fox and Tatyana Ali. SESAC’s Pat Collins (president/COO) and Ellen Truly (VP and corporate relations) were also in attendance.
During his address to attendees, Cox stressed the importance collaboration and networking. “I really want everyone in this room to turn the music business upside down this year,” he said. “Connect the dots, build relationships and grow. We should not be in the same place we’re in next year.”
Bryan-Michael Cox is a Grammy-winning songwriter who has written or produced hits for Mary J. Blige, Usher, Mariah Carey, Aaliyah, Jermaine Dupri, Toni Braxton, Fantasia, Faith Evans and many others.
