Toronto International Film Festival announced its first list of titles for this year’s event on Tuesday (July 23), with Bruce Springsteen and Thom Zimny’s Western Stars on the bill.
Just two weeks ago, the icon called into SiriusXM’s E Street Radio to subtly reveal the upcoming film, where he performs the just-released album of the same name from start to finish. “We knew we weren’t going to tour,” Springsteen said. “So I was looking for a way to get some of the music live to an audience and so we figured that was the best way to do it. We’re looking forward to getting it to the fans when we can.”
Western Stars, released in June, was Springsteen’s 20th top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, debuting at No. 2 in the week ending June 20, according to Nielsen Music.
The 44th TIFF takes place Sept. 5-15, 2019.
