In an impromptu appearance, Bruce Springsteen performed to an intimate crowd of 400 at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park, N.J. on Sunday (July 17), during a “Tribute to the Late, Great Clarence Clemons.” The 45-minute set was Springsteen’s first public performance since the Big Man’s death on June 18.

The Boss joined J.T. Bowen and the Soul Cruisers after watching “You’re A Friend Of Mine” from the side of the stage, according to the New Jersey Star Ledger. The tribute opened with a performance by Clarence’s son, Nick Clemons.
Springsteen performed his own “Action In The Streets,” as well as covers of “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” (The Temptations), “Sweet Soul Music” (Arthur Conley), “Shake” (Sam Cooke) and Eddie Floyd’s “Raise Your Hand,” “Knock On Wood” and “634-5789” alongside the Soul Cruisers. The Boss also sang “Savin’ Up,” which he wrote for Clemons and the Red Bank Rockers to use on their 1983 album, “Rescue.” Watch performances below.
