Rock trio Black Rebel Motorcycle Club will kick off a North American tour Sept. 12 in San Francisco. The month-long outing, which will feature support from former Ride frontman Mark Gardener, comes in support of BRMC’s third album, “Howl.” As previously reported, the set is due Aug. 23 via RCA.
The tour will feature the return of drummer Nick Jago, who left the band temporarily during the writing and recording of “Howl.” The album is a significant departure from BRMC’s previous psychedelic rock sound, with nearly every track featuring acoustic guitar, highlighted by the drumless, harmonica-flecked “Fault Line” and the rousing “Still Suspicion Holds You Tight.”
Elsewhere, the band tests out feel-good piano pop (“Promise”), dark blues (“Restless Sinner”) and Bob Dylan-style acoustic strumming (“Complicated Situation”). The album’s final song, “The Line,” includes a hidden track featuring only voice and a fuzzed-out keyboard backing.
