The Britney Spears vs. Lady Gaga debate heated up on Billboard.com last week when we launched a readers’ poll to let you decide whose new single — Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” or Gaga’s “Born This Way” — is the better one. A whopping 2.6 million votes were cast, and for the majority of the face-off period, the results were neck-and-neck.
Unfortunately, both Gaga and Britney fans spoke out about allegations of cheating in our poll. We took those accusations very seriously and communicated them to Polldaddy, who investigated the back-end of the poll. Unfortunately Polldaddy not able to confirm or deny that the poll had been compromised.
Because we want the results to be fair and your voices to be heard, we’ve decided to declare the results of our original poll invalid and present a new one with a more secure and cheat-proof poll system — one that insures one vote per fan. We will be able to detect the use of bots and other cheating mechanisms in the poll, and those votes will be thrown out of the final tally. And we will be keeping the ongoing results of the poll private in other to further discourage cheating.
Starting now, Billboard.com’s new Britney vs. Gaga poll is open, and voting will close on Monday (Feb. 21) at 11:59 p.m. EST. The winner will be announced Tuesday afternoon, so check back then to see which pop superstar came out on top.
Thanks for all your enthusiasm and your patience. Good luck to both Britney and Gaga!
