It’s Britney, bitch, and that flawless performance makeup is back. Billboard asked Melanie Inglessis, Britney Spears‘ makeup artist and star of our first “Rock the Look” makeup tutorial series how she created the “Glory” singer’s VMAs red carpet look.
“I wanted Britney’s makeup to look very youthful and fresh, with a little definition around the eyes and a nude lip,” Inglessis tells Billboard. “Britney always prefers bold eyes over a lip.”
To achieve those bold eyes, Inglessis pressed Tom Ford Cream Color For Eyes in “Spice” into the crease, brushing a powder shadow on top and lining upper and bottom lash lines with Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil in Matte “Dark Brown“, extending outwards into a wing.
To make her hazel eyes pop, she used CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre in “New Moon” like she would a shadow, but blending into the liner to soften. She topped off the look with Westmore Beauty Eye Effects Red Carpet Lashes in “Black“, two coats on the top lashes and one coat on the bottom.
For the base, Inglessis used Westmore Beauty Lasting Effect Foundation in Tan, starting off with a lighter application for the carpet and building up for the performance. She then tapped Kevyn Aucoin Blusher in Dolline on the apples of her cheeks, and swiped Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminator in Riviera on her cheekbones and jawline for subtle definition, finishing off with a dusting of Make Up For Ever HD powder on the t-zone.
“When working a performance, I always lean towards powders over creams because of their staying power,” Inglessis says.
