The Billboard Hot 100:
As previously reported, LMFAO leaps to its first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, as “Party Rock Anthem,” featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock, lifts 3-1 with Greatest Gainer/Digital honors. Other notable moves, however, highlight this week’s Hot 100 action:
— Britney Spears: Last week, following the June 21 arrival of Spears’ video for the song, “I Wanna Go” surged by 282% to 67,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan, good for an 89-29 vault on the Hot 100. This week, the song’s momentum continues, as it jumps 29-22, fueled by a 52-26 blast in its second week on Hot 100 Airplay (33 million, up 42%, according to Nielsen BDS) and a 27-21 rise on Hot Digital Songs (81,000,up 20%).
— Enrique Iglesias: As “Dirty Dancer” drops 32-41, it looks as if radio programmers have put this baby in a corner. After two weeks peaking at No. 49 on Hot 100 Airplay, the third single from “Euphoria” slides to No. 58 (21 million, down 16%) in just its sixth week on the tally. Prior singles “I Like It,” featuring Pitbull, and “Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You),” featuring Ludacris and DJ Frank E, reached Nos. 3 and 1 (two weeks), respectively, on the radio ranking. The song likewise loses oomph at its home format, rising 18-17 on Mainstream Top 40 but with a 5% decrease in weekly plays. “Dancer” peaked at No. 18 on the Hot 100 upon its debut the week of May 28, when opening sales of 126,000 accounted for 91% of the song’s first-week chart points.
— Beyonce: As “4” roars in atop the Billboard 200, newest single “Best Thing I Never Had” chops its Hot 100 rank in half, bounding 58-29. The ballad climbs 72-26 on Hot Digital Songs (71,000, up 156%), while continuing to build at radio; it lifts 48-42 in its fourth week on Hot 100 Airplay (29 million, up 15%). At No. 29, “Best” ties first single “Run the World (Girls)” for the set’s highest-peaking Hot 100 hit to-date. In between, “1+1” debuted and peaked at No. 57 in a two-week run.
— Coldplay: The alternative titans debut two titles on the Hot 100: “Moving to Mars” (No. 90; 30,000 downloads) and “Major Minus” (No. 92; 29,000). The songs appear on the three-track EP “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall,” the title cut of which rebounds 61-54; it peaked at No. 14 three weeks ago. “Waterfall” is still enjoying radio support, as it becomes Coldplay’s ninth No. 1 on the Triple A airplay chart. The group passes Dave Matthews Band and jack Johnson (eight each) to move within one of U2’s chart-record 10 toppers at the format. The song concurrently climbs 6-5 on Alternative and 16-15 on Adult Top 40.
The Billboard 200:
While we’ve already written about the top 10 albums this week on the Billboard 200 chart (including’s Beyonce bow at No. 1 with “4”), what’s moving and shaking outside the top 10 this week?
— Chris Brown: The Sunday, June 26 BET Awards shine on performer and mulitple-winner Chris Brown, as his “F.A.M.E.” set rises 45-39 with 13,000 (up 27%). The album has so far sold 646,000 copies — almost double the 346,000 that his last release, 2009’s “Graffiti,” has moved.
— Foster the People: It’s normal to see albums have their best sales week upon its debut and then slowly slip down the chart, selling increasingly fewer units with each successive frame. But new act Foster the People might be able to buck that trend. Its debut album “Torches” sees its first weekly sales gain, as it rises 48-46 with 11,000 (up 16%) according to Nielsen SoundScan. The set entered the tally five weeks ago at No. 8 with 33,000 and continued to drop down the list each week. However, it seems the buzz band is making further inroads with its summery single “Pumped Up Kicks.” The song is spending its third non-consecutive week at No. 1 on the Alternative chart while it’s bubbling under the Mainstream Top 40 airplay tally.
— Alicia Keys: The R&B songstress’ classic debut album “Songs in A Minor” re-enters at No. 69 with 8,000 (up over 3,000%) after it was reissued last week. The new deluxe version, celebrating the set’s tenth anniversary, came either with six bonus tracks. An even more expanded edition added a further six cuts, plus a DVD with a documentary and music videos.
— Prince/Bria Valente: The pair’s 3-CD Target-exclusive album, “Lotus Flow3r, MPLSOUND/Elix3r,” released in 2009, was marked down to $4.99 last week at the retailer, hence it’s out of the blue re-entry at No. 104 (6,000 — up from nearly nothing last week).
