Britney Spears wasn’t the only one flying high on the news Wednesday (Sept. 29) that her estranged dad, Jamie Spears, had been suspended as the conservator of her estate. The singer, who has been battling to be free of her father’s control for years, posted an Instagram video in which she was flying on a plane with the message that she was on “cloud 9” after the good news. She was joined in her elation by a number of stars who shared in her joy.
Cher was effusive, tweeting, “Thank God. I’ve Talked & [prayer hand emoji] About This 4 Years. I’M MORE THAN THRILLED 4 HER!! BLESS OUR SUPER [star]. #FREEBRITNEY.”
R&B legend Dionne Warwick shared her thoughts as well, tweeting, “This is wonderful news. She can now breathe. Congratulations, Britney. Enjoy your life.”
Singer La Toya Jackson also congratulated Britney on her freedom, and Vanessa Carlton said she was “so thrilled” to see that “freedom and hopefully justice is finally coming to this brilliant lady.” Carlton also praised the new Netflix documentary Britney vs Spears, which takes a deep dive into the history of the conservatorship, specifically shouting out veteran music journalist Jenny Eliscu for a job “so well done.”
Bette Midler thanked everyone who helped the #FreeBritney cause, “especially Britney, who, after 13 years in the wilderness, never gave up until she was finally heard.”
