As reported yesterday, Britney Spears sets a new record on the Billboard Hot 100 with a 96-1 jump for “Womanizer.” But T.I. is still nipping at her heels, as “Whatever You Like” holds at No. 2 as the greatest digital gainer and “Live Your Life” featuring Rihanna slips 3-1 despite being the greatest airplay gainer.
T.I. thus becomes the first artist to simultaneously earn greatest gainer tags with two different songs since the digital gainer honor was introduced in 2005.
Pink’s “So What” is down 3-4, while Katy Perry’s “Hot N Cold” inches up 6-5. Rihanna’s “Disturbia” slides 4-6, and Kevin Rudolf’s “Let It Rock” featuring Lil Wayne drops 5-7. T-Pain’s “Can’t Believe It” featuring Lil Wayne slides 6-8, as Ne-Yo scores a second top 10 hit from his album “Year of the Gentleman” with “Miss Independent,” up 11-9.
M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes” falls 9-10 to round out the top tier. Beyond Spears, the biggest debut this week comes from Akron’s “I’m So Paid” featuring Lil Wayne at No. 40. Wayne has seven songs in the top 40 of this week’s chart for a third time this year; the Beatles are the only other act to have done so.
On Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Jennifer Hudson scores her first No. 1 as “Spotlight” climbs 2-1. Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” is the top debut there at No. 20.
Kenny Chesney begins a second week at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs with the Wailers-featuring “Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven,” while Brooks & Dunn notch the top debut at No. 40 with “Cowgirls Don’t Cry.”
Billboard’s rock charts are again unchanged, with The Offspring’s “You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid” at No. 1 on Modern Rock for a fourth week and Metallica’s “The Day That Never Comes” atop Mainstream Rock for a third.
