Bright Eyes is back, though it’s with an album recorded over a decade ago.
“A Christmas Album,” a holiday record Conor Oberst recorded and released on a limited basis through Saddle Creek Records’ website in 2002, is getting a wide release Nov. 5, in time for the Christmas season.
The 11-song effort was originally created to benefit Nebraska’s AIDS project. The tracklist, all of which are covers of Christmas classics, includes “Blue Christmas,” “The First Noel,” “Silver Bells” and more.
The album features backing vocals from Azure Ray’s Maria Taylor, as well as contributions from multiple musicians, including Blake Sennett (Rilo Kiley) and longtime Oberst collaborator Mike Mogis.
The release of “A Christmas Album” is just one of many more holiday records seeing releases this season from artists who one might not expect to get into the holiday spirit, including Erasure and Bad Religion. That’s alongside more traditional releases from the likes of Kelly Clarkson and Leona Lewis.
