Legendary musician, producer and artist Brian Eno has been announced as a keynote speaker for IMS Ibiza 2020. Eno will take part in a conversation with IMS partner and fellow electronic world legend Pete Tong regarding how the music industry can take on the climate crisis.
Eno will walk the talk by participating in this conversation via livestream, as he’s currently taking a break from flying in order to reduce his carbon emissions. The talk will focus on EarthPercent, an environmental organization of which Eno is a founding trustee, and which encourages artists and music companies to commit a percentage of their revenue to the best organizations addressing the climate emergency.
IMS will donate the cost of Eno’s flight to EarthPercent and carbon offset all air travel associated with producing the 2020 conference.
This keynote discussion will follow into other presentations and initiatives from within the industry, looking at the wider debate around climate change and discussing what action must be taken.
“There’s a revolution going on: the biggest and broadest social movement in human history,” Eno is quoted in a statement. “It grows out of two realizations: that the planet — and with it human civilization — is in danger of collapse from a rapidly changing climate. And that it’s us — us people — who have to do something about it.”
“The music industry has always been a leader in movements for social change, and we can be proud of that,” Eno continues. “But if ever our efforts were needed, now is the time. This is The Big One and I am delighted to have this opportunity with IMS to speak with the global electronic music community at such a critical moment.”
IMS Ibiza 2020 happens May 20-22, 2020 on the famed dance island. Hosted with shesaid.so in association with Pioneer DJ, the theme of this year’s conference is “In Pursuit of Purpose.”
