Brasstracks is back again, and boy do they sound good.
The NYC-based duo, known for their distinct jazz and hip-hop crossover, accomplish just the right mix on “Stay There,” released Friday (June 15).
“Girl I see you movin’/Close in my direction/Don’t come near my section/I got many questions,” collaborator Xavier Omar croons with deep, sultry vocals that layer on top of percussion and drum beats. The song, dedicating to leaving the past in the past, is quite upbeat–and undeniably catchy.
“We really wanted a song that everyone would latch onto melodically from the jump, but we knew that would require a really serious singer,” the Grammy-winning group said in a statement. “So we hit up Xavier Omar after we wrapped the instrumental. He sent back stems in less than a week and killed it. The concept of ‘now that you’re gone, you gotta stay gone’- we related to that.”
“Stay There” will be featured on Brasstracks’ upcoming EP, For Those Who Know Part 2. Listen below.
