Things are officially heating up on “Dancing With the Stars,” which aired last night (Oct. 11). Now only one week away from mid-season, it’s becoming more and more evident who the front runners are. While many predicted that Brandy would be the person to beat, actress Jennifer Grey is giving everyone something to aspire to.
For the week four performances, contestants competed in the “double score showdown” where each were judged not only on performance, but received a separate score for technique as well. This week was the first time competitors danced an elevated round stage.
These obstacles proved to be a little too much for The Situation, who received the lowest combined score of the evening (28/60). The “Jersey Shore” star danced the Argentine tango to an instrumental take on the Eurythmics‘ “Sweet Dreams.” Despite those perfectly toned abs, he and partner Karina Smirnoff were just barely able to pull off the lifts and thus were also slacking in the performance department. “Jersey Shore” fans will be the only way to keep The Situation out of elimination.

R&B singer Brandy has scored all over the board recently, but this week was definitely an up week. In her pre-dance video, Brandy explained that she was having trouble channeling the romantic energy of the Rumba — you know, because it’s so difficult to drum up some sexual energy with her muscle-ripped and dimple-faced partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. He was able to get the singer to show her softer side, and the two performed a sensual samba to Maxwell‘s “A Woman’s Work,” landing in second place on the leader board with a 48/60.

After tumbling to second place last week with just a slight misstep during her routine, Jennifer Grey came back in full force with her Argentine tango. In her intro video Grey had been complaining about her physical ailments, but there were no apparent back aches or stiff necks when her partner Derek Hough spun her around the circular stage to a traditional tango accompaniment. Their stunning performance earned the first tens of the season. The couple walked away with a combined score of 56/60, erasing any doubt that Hough and Grey are the team to beat this season.
