Just because something’s been repeated for years doesn’t make it true.
The long-running rumor that Beyonce is attached to a remake of the oft-remade A Star Is Born has once again been denied — this time, American Sniper star Bradley Cooper is the one to shoot it down.
Cooper, who was first linked to the film as the male lead in Clint Eastwood’s shelved version of the project, is now reportedly attached to the project as star and director. But the rumor that Beyonce is taking over the role played by Janet Gaynor in 1937, Judy Garland in 1954 and Barbra Streisand in 1976 isn’t true.
“Just a rumor,” Cooper told E!’s Marc Malkin at the premiere of Joy. “But with that said, I would be honored obviously with to work with her in any capacity.”
Aside from the many remakes, the original A Star Is Born was itself a reworking of the 1932 film What Price Hollywood? So while many blast Hollywood for running out of original ideas these days, it’s important to note that Hollywood started recycling itself well before the Great Depression.
