The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on Friday confirmed its director general Andrew Yeates would exit at the end of April. News on his departure emerged last month.
The move, according to the London-based trade body, is part of “a significant restructuring.” The director general post will be discontinued.
“The BPI and in many ways the wider British music industry is indebted to Andrew for his contribution,” says BPI executive chairman Peter Jamieson, describing him as “a great force for modernization.” Jamieson continues: “He has brought the BPI closer to its sister organizations in the music industry, and he has been a great advocate of the industry to Government.”
Adds Yeates: “As the industry continues to face a period of change, I believe there will be an ever sharper focus on the important role played by the BPI.” Yeates has yet to announce his future plans.
