
J-pop boy band BOYS AND MEN‘s “Shinka Riron” debuts at No. 1 on the latest Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart dated May 7 to 13 after selling 143,108 CDs in its first week. The 10-member regional group based in Japan’s Tokai area was boosted mainly by its strength in physical sales (No. 1).
Returning to No. 2 on this week’s Japan Hot 100 is <a href=”/music/Kenshi-Yonezu”>Kenshi Yonezu</a>’s “Lemon,” rising 4-2 after ruling downloads, look-ups and video views again.
<a href=”/music/BABYMETAL”>BABYMETAL</a>, currently touring the U.S., debuts at No. 6 with their new song, “Distortion,” after coming in at No. 2 for downloads and No. 9 for Twitter mentions.
The top song for streaming this week is <a href=”/music/Sandaime-J-Soul-Brothers”>Sandaime J Soul Brothers from EXILE TRIBE</a>’s “Koi To Ai.” The lead single from their new album, FUTURE, debuts at No. 9 on the Japan Hot 100 fueled by Twitter (No. 5) and video views (No. 10).
Fans of the Japanese pop-rock band <a href=”/music/Mr-Children”>Mr. Children</a> rejoiced last week when the veteran foursome finally made their back catalog of 25 years worth of hit songs available for download and streaming. This move has affected this week’s chart metrics in a major way, with 10 Mr. Children songs in the top 100 for downloads and 13 for streaming. The Japan Hot 100 sees “Hanabi” (2008) at No. 48, “Himawari” (2017) at No. 84, and the band’s smash hit single from 1994, “Tomorrow Never Knows,” at No. 90 this week.
