In a surprising move, Scott Borchetta is out as Universal Music Group Nashville senior VP of promotion and artist development.
“I’ve had a burning desire to run my own record label for quite some time now,” Borchetta says in a statement.
“While we understand Scott’s desire to take the next step in his career, he will be missed,” Universal Music Nashville co-Chairmen Luke Lewis and James Stroud say. “His tremendous contributions to Universal Music Group Nashville include helping to build a superb artist roster and one of the most talented promotion teams in the business.”
Borchetta joined DreamWorks Records in Nashville at its inception seven years ago and added oversight for MCA Nashville and Mercury Records when the labels merged last spring. The merger actually marked a return for Borchetta to the MCA side, as he had previously served as senior VP of promotion at that label prior to joining DreamWorks.
No replacement has been named.
