Bon Iver‘s video for “Beth/Rest” follows the story of two angelic lovers in luminescent hazmat suits, as they float in a hot air balloon and collect eggs for their tree house above what appears to be either Rivendell or an Ewok village.
Co-directed by Justin Vernon and Dan Huiting, who also worked on the clip for “Calgary,” the “Beth/Rest” video arrives nearly a year and a half after the release of Bon Iver’s self-titled sophomore album.

Vernon appears briefly in the video beginning at around 4:15, along with a handful of Bon Iver members wearing the same kind of lit-up onesies. While he plays his signature Gibson SG guitar, the band sit cross-legged holding plastic saxophones and keytars.
The word Axiom, which Webster defines as a “an established rule or principle or a self-evident truth,” is displayed at the end of the video.
“Bon Iver, Bon Iver” took home Best Alternative Album at the 2012 Grammy Awards on Feb. 12, and the band earned Best New Artist honors.
In September, Vernon spoke on the band’s future, telling CityPages he was “winding it down.”
“There’s so much attention on the band, it can be distracting at times,” he said. “I really feel the need to walk away from it while I still care about it. And then if I come back to it — if at all — I’ll feel better about it and be renewed or something to do that.”
