The popular Fox animated series Bob’s Burgers is adding a second Los Angeles date for its upcoming Bob’s Burgers Live: Music and Comedy and Musical Comedy Revue at the Orpheum Theater.
Bob’s Burgers Live is being produced by show creator Loren Bouchard’s Wilo Productions, Jon Halperin and Bento Box Entertainment, with music from house band El Vy featuring The National’s Matt Berninger. Bob’s Burgers Live will pay homage to the popular animated series — now in its seventh season — and feature stand-up comedy from castmembers, including H. Jon Benjamin, Kristen Schaal, Eugene Mirman and Dan Mintz. There will be a large musical portion with fan-favorite songs performed by the cast, as well as appearances by Bouchard and series composers John Dylan Keith and Tim Dacey.
“We’re going to have all the cast do stand-up with entirely new material,” Bouchard tells Billboard. “We’ll do a live table read and then we’ll do a Bob’s Burgers live music concert.”
So far, the only dates planned for 2017 are June 17 and 18 in Los Angeles, although additional cities could be added. In 2015, Bob’s Burgers Live sold out eight shows, including at the Wiltern in Los Angeles.
“Bringing the show to the fans is part of what makes it fun to do this, so going on the road is definitely something we value and try to do,” Bouchard says. “I have had a really nice role. I’m the guy who doesn’t have to be funny. I can be Bob’s ambassador.”
Bouchard is a longtime TV producer, voice actor and animator who got his start in the mid-’90s with the Comedy Central series Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. After working on several other shows, including Adult Swim’s Lucy, the Daughter of the Devil and the Ricky Gervais Show, Bouchard teamed up with King of the Hill writer and producer Jim Dauterive in 2009 to create Bob’s Burgers.
“Part of the live show is that we introduce clips” from the animated series, Bouchard says. “It’s always gratifying for us to hear what people laugh at and see how these things play out live.”
The live shows come a month after the release of The Bob’s Burgers Music Album, a box-set collection of 107 songs from the series’ first 107 episodes. The album is produced by Bouchard’s Wilo Productions in partnership with Bento Box Entertainment, with Sub Pop licensing the rights from Twentieth Century Fox Television.
