After starting out by integrating Pandora into its Mini line, BMW said in a statement Thursday (April 28) that it will add the customized Internet radio service to all 2011 and 2012 models – although those models must have the BMW APPs option installed, which is available for an extra $250.
BMW Apps allow drivers to interact with certain iPhone apps using the vehicle’s controls, so the Pandora app would need to be on an iPhone connected to the car for users to access, which allows them to then to operate the app using the dashboard or steering wheel controls.
Only apps that BMW optimizes for the BMW Apps system are available, and the Pandora app is the first third-party service approved.
Pandora first showed off the Mini integration at CES this year.
