The BMI Foundation, Inc. opened its 8th Annual Peermusic Latin Scholarship, a competition open to all students between 16 and 24 years old who are currently enrolled in any college or university in the United States and Puerto Rico. The prize will be awarded for the best composition in any Latin genre. The compositions, whether they’re songs or instrumental pieces, must be 100% original and all applications must be postmarked by February 11, 2011 in order to be considered for the $5,000 scholarship award.
Previous recipients of the prize include Venezuelan composer Marco Godoy in 2004 and 2006, Mexican singer/songwriter Manelick de la Parra in 2005 (brother of coductor Alondra de la Parra), Mexican pop singer Daniel Dayz (2007) and Daniela Blau from Costa Rica, among others.
The scholarship competition was established by peermusic CEO Ralph Peer II. The BMI Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit corporation founded in 1985 to support the creation, performance and study of music through awards, scholarships, commissions and grants.
