ASCAP and BMI will head to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah later this month, with each performing rights organization offering a strong slate of musical talent.
The 21st annual Sundance ASCAP Music Cafe will take place Jan. 25-Feb. 1. Starting at 2 p.m. each day, the line up will include Grammy winners Claudia Brant, Everlast, Patty Griffin and Lee Ann Womack.
Other songwriting performers at ASCAP’s venue at 751 Main Street include Beulahbelle, Stephen Bishop, Dounia, The Dumes, Flor de Toloache, Herizen, iDKHOW (I Dont Know How But They Found Me), Leland, Patrick Martin, MILCK, Shim Moore, NEFF-U & Priscilla Renea, Judith Owen, Park88, JP Saxe, Warbly Jets and Mel Bryant & the Mercy Makers.
ASCAP pairs with the Academy of Country Music and Nashville’s acclaimed Bluebird Cafe on Jan. 30 and 31 for afternoons of music featuring Womack, Deana Carter, Carlton Anderson and Jacob Davis. On Jan. 30, the Café will also present a performance of music from Sundance Film Festival selection Abe by Seu Jorge and Jaques Morelenbaum.
BMI will host its 21st annual composer and director roundtable, titled Music & Film: The Creative Process on Jan. 27 at Kimball Arts Center. This year’s participants include director of the Sundance Institute Film Music Program Peter Golub; composer Mandy Hoffman and director Minhal Baig (Hala); composer Jon Ekstrand and director May el-Toukhy (Queen of Hearts); composer Blake Neely and director Ryan White (Ask Dr. Ruth); composer Heather McIntosh and director Martha Stephens (To the Stars); and composer Will Bates (The Inventor) and (The Sound of Silence). BMI’s vp of film, TV and visual media relations, Doreen Ringer-Ross, will moderate.
On Jan. 29, BMI will hold its 17th annual Snowball at The Shop, featuring an all-female lineup. Among the roster will be S-Curve/BMG artists Neyla Pekarek and Hailey Knox, as well as composer Tamar-kali (Mudbound). More acts are to be announced.
