“Totally Hits 2005,” the ninth volume in a series of Warner Strategic Marketing/BMG Strategic Marketing compilations, pulls together 20 tracks by Alicia Keys, Fat Joe, Simple Plan and Mario, among others. The set is due May 17.
The biggest hit on this edition is Mario’s “Let Me Love You,” which topped Billboard’s Hot 100 for nine weeks earlier this year. The collection also includes Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 and is currently No. 1 on the Pop 100 tally, as well as the No. 2 Hot 100 track “1, 2 Step” by Ciara featuring Missy Elliott.
Third season “American Idol” winner Fantasia is represented with “Truth Is,” which reached No. 2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. “Breathe” by Fabolous (No. 2 Hot Rap Tracks, No. 4 Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks) and “Let’s Go” by Trick Daddy featuring Big D & Twista (No. 4 Hot Rap Tracks, No. 10 Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks) also make the cut.
Songs by Avril Lavigne, Maroon5, Ryan Cabrera, Gavin DeGraw, T.I., Cassidy, Anthony Hamilton, Rupee, Tyler Hilton and Tweet round out the set.
Developed by Warner Strategic Marketing and BMG Strategic Marketing as a competitor to the wildly successful “NOW That’s What I Call Music!” series, the nine “Totally Hits” sets have together sold more than 11 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
All of the compilations have debuted in the top 25 of The Billboard 200, most in the top 15. The highest charting among them have been “Totally Hits 2002,” which debuted at No. 2, and “Totally Hits 2001,” which bowed at No. 3.
