BMG Rights Management (BRM), Bertelsmann’s new music rights arm, has exclusively signed German artists Peter Fox and 2Raumwohnung, British singer-songwriter Andrew Roachford and Austria’s Christina Stürmer.
These artists join several new songwriters such as Toby Gad, who has worked with Beyoncé and Natasha Bedingfield, as the first signings of the company’s debut business quarter.
The company has also signed the master recordings for Nena, the most successful German artist of recent years.
“Nena will have BMG Rights Management represent not only her catalogs from the 1980s but also future recordings,” says Hartwig Masuch, managing director at BRM. “In this business, the company can also build on recording catalogs of over 200 artists which were acquired from the former Sony BMG Music Entertainment joint venture.”
BRM also represents works by Germany’s Die Prinzen, Laith Al-Deen, Yvonne Catterfeld and Westbam.
The Berlin-based company was conceived in October 2008 and began operations this month, with a focus on exploiting and marketing European music rights across the continent (Billboard.biz, Nov. 11).
