There may be a new Blur album yet.
After 2012 reports that work on the reunited band’s eighth album had ceased, frontman Damon Albarn told Hong Kong fans that the group is still giving it a go.
“We have a week in Hong Kong, and we thought it would be a good time to try and record another record,” Albarn said from the stage at the AsiaWorld-Expo, captured in a video posted to fan site BlurBalls.
The Britpop icons haven’t made an album since 2003’s “Think Tank.” However, the group has been a live force since returning to the stage with a pair of shows in London’s Hyde Park in 2009, recently headlining the Coachella Music Festival in April. And new music has trickled out in single form, with 2010 track “Fool’s Day” seeing a Record Store Day release and 2012 songs “Under the Westway” and “The Puritan” arriving last July. Expectations for a new album at that time, however, were crushed by producer William Orbit’s public remarks that Albarn had pulled the plug on the project.
