EMI Music’s jazz imprint Blue Note Records has partnered with classical and jazz publisher Boosey & Hawkes on a synchronization deal. The arrangement means Boosey & Hawkes will represent Blue Note for synchs of its master recordings on a global basis.
Blue Note, which is marking its 70th anniversary this year, has a catalog that includes major jazz artists such as John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, Dexter Gordon, Miles Davis and Cassandra Wilson.
“We knew Blue Note’s 70th anniversary this year represented a unique opportunity for synchronization of the label’s legendary recordings,” said Cynthia Sexton, executive VP of brand partnerships, licensing and synch for EMI Music worldwide. “Boosey & Hawkes has a great track record and unique specialization in the jazz genre for synch, and we are pleased to have them give the Blue Note repertoire a full-court press approach. “
Under the new agreement, London-based Boosey & Hawkes will offer master recording sourcing and clearance for many of their existing jazz copyrights, enabling them to provide combined publishing and master synch solutions.
“Blue Note Records is a legendary label that has been instrumental in charting the course of jazz history and, alongside our existing classical roster, and the fact that we are continuing to strengthen our contemporary music offering, we are now able to provide an extremely diverse and compelling service to our many synch clients,” said Natasha Baldwin, head of consultancy at Boosey & Hawkes, in a statement.
