Lions Gate Entertainment is the latest home video company to throw its support into the Blu-ray high definition DVD ring, revealing today (Aug. 17) plans to release new theatrical DVDs, TV titles and catalog projects when the hardware debuts. Players and software are expected in the U.S. market in the first quarter of 2006.
Other Blu-ray supporters include Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Buena Vista Home Entertainment.
Universal Music Group reported yesterday (Aug. 16) that it would also issue releases on Blu-ray next year. It became the second major label, after SonyBMG, to join the Blu-ray camp.
Blu-ray’s rival, HD DVD, is still slated to debut this fourth quarter. Supporting software companies include Warner Home Video, New Line Home Entertainment, Paramount Home Entertainment and Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
