On its few minor hits — the forgotten novelties “Fire Water Burn” and “The Bad Touch” — the Bloodhound Gang’s shtick was merely tiresome. Now it’s uncomfortably embarrassing, and their poopyheaded new “Hefty Fine” is for all those curious to discover the lingering hilariousness behind something called “Farting With a Walkman On.”
No, kids, it’s not that scatological jokes aren’t funny, just that these scatological jokes aren’t funny. Wannabe provocateur Jimmy Pop Ali’s previous one trick of using pop-culture references as punch lines — hey everybody, how about that Screech! — has been employed more effectively in the past 10 years by every other comedy writer on the planet (the best here is a track called “Ralph Wiggum” that inexplicably cribs a cut-rate “Simpsons” gag).
Couple all this with C-grade production values — about three notes separate “Bad Touch” from “Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss” — Jimmy Pop’s sleepy rhymes and a cover with a naked fat guy on it and you’ve got an album with all the palpable and pity-inducing effort of unpopular kids dying for attention from Daddy.
