R&B superstar Mary J. Blige is offering fans behind-the-scenes glimpses of the making of her new album on a special DVD and clips featured on her official Web site. The 42-minute DVD will be bundled with the first 500,000 copies of the new album “love & life,” due Aug. 26 via Geffen. “Let it be known Mary is in love and enjoying her life,” Blige told Billboard. “But the songs on this album show that you must keep pressing on. I am only human. I am not a statue to worship.”
The DVD spotlights the collaborative spark between Blige and producer Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, an at times heated pairing that previously led to the pair parting ways after the 1994 album “My Life.” Blige is also seen celebrating Thanksgiving, partying on New Year’s Eve, spending her birthday in the recording studio and tracking such cuts as first single “love @ 1st sight” and “Special Part of Me.”
Blige’s Web site is featuring MaryTV episodes that follow her on a promotional tour, video and photo shoots, a dance rehearsal and at a listening party. The section also offers vintage Blige music videos, interviews and a road diary.
Blige will perform Aug. 29 on NBC’s “Today Show” as part of its Summer Concert Series. In the fall, Reebok will begin airing TV ads that feature Blige introducing a new sweatsuit line.
