Blake Shelton has admitted he had a “few drinks” before rolling up his sleeves for a Twitter battle over American Sniper.
The Voice judge and fellow country singer Craig Morgan made headlines when they took aim at celebrities who questioned the message behind the hit film, and the military in general.

Shelton weighed in when he tweeted, “Proud to support our military.. Period.” And he followed up with, “Sickens me to see celebrities or anybody slam the very people who protect their right to talk shit.. #truecowards.”

Shelton, who will serve as host and musical guest on this week’s episode of SNL, spoke with E! News about the social media row.
“Sometimes I probably say things on [Twitter] I shouldn’t say. Just like last night, I had a few drinks and had to go off about a movie I want to see.”

He went on to say, “I don’t take myself that seriously, so I love to get on Twitter and have fun–and I think I make my managers a nervous wreck, but I feel like I’ve made it to this point, so what’s the worst that’s gonna happen?”
Blake is the first country star to appear on SNL in its 40th anniversary season, and the first host to pull double duty.
