How you like that, Blinks? On Monday (Aug. 3), Blackpink unveiled the release date for their new single, and it’s arriving sooner than you think!
“#BLACKPINK NEW SINGLE (Feat. ?) RELEASE POSTER…2020.08.28,” YG Entertainment tweeted alongside a peek at the as-yet-untitled single’s pop art-inspired poster — which features Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé posing with various fruits and a sunflower — confirming the track’s Aug. 28 release date.
What remains unconfirmed, however, is the title of the song — as well as which artist will be joining them on the track, with a giant question mark in the center of the girl group beneath the word “Featuring.”
Of course, the mystery surrounding the guest artist certainly didn’t stop fans from speculating with their own theories, which were dominated by guesses for both Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez.
“ARIPINK PLS,” one fan wrote, while another rallied for Gomez, tweeting, “SELENA GOMEZ AND BLACKPINK MY SAVIORS THANK YOU FOR SAVING POP THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING WE DO NOT DESERVE YOU YOU ARE AMAZING YOU ARE EVERYTHING AND I LIVE TO PLEASE YOU…SELPINK IS COMING!!!”
One Blink in particular summed up the conjecture surrounding the K-pop girl group collaborating with either pop star, writing, “Selena or ariana, it doesn’t matter because these two woman are powerful & talented. i would be so happy my girls working with these queens…JUST SUPPORT MY GIRLS AND THE COLLAB OR GO.”
With their forthcoming single, Blackpink is poised to continue the major year they’re already having. The band’s latest offering, “How You Like That,” broke multiple records with its swaggering music video, setting the record for the biggest YouTube premiere as well as the largest 24-hour music video premiere of all time, notching a staggering 86.3 million views in its first day.
“How You Like That” also followed “Sour Candy,” the girls’ bilingual bop of a collaboration with none other than Lady Gaga on the pop star’s transcendent Chromatica. The sugary album cut earned Blackpink the highest-charting Billboard hit of their career thus far, peaking at No. 33 on the Hot 100. (The chart entry was eventually tied by “How You Like That” reaching the same high point weeks later.) The band also confirmed recently via social media that their long-awaited debut album will be unveiled this fall via YG Entertainment, with a release date set for Oct. 2.
