Talib Kweli, the New York-based rapper who rose to fame via two high-profile collaborative albums on Rawkus Records — “Black Star” (with Mos Def) and “Reflection Eternal” (with producer Hi-Tek) — will on Nov. 19 release his Rawkus solo debut, “Quality.”
A wordplay on his Kweli’s similarly pronounced surname, “Quality” features guest appearances by notable hip-hop names such as Pharaohe Monch, the Roots’ Black Thought, and soul singer Bilal, as well as production by Kanye West (Jay-Z) and Jay Dee (Janet Jackson, Common).
The first single from “Quality” will be “Waitin’ for the DJ” featuring Bilal. Other confirmed tracks include “Get By,” “Guerilla Monsoon Rap,” “Good To You,” “Where Do We Go,” and “Stand to the Side.”
Kweli and Hi-Tek’s “Reflection Eternal” debuted at No. 17 on The Billboard 200 in November 2000, notching a No. 5 bow on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart the same week. “Black Star” debuted in October 1998 at No. 53 on The Billboard 200.
