Bishop Charles H. Ellis III, who was officiating Aretha Franklin‘s funeral on Friday (Aug. 31), might have once ordered an “Ariana Grande” at the drive-thru window.
The preacher made a funny confession after Grande’s performance at the late Franklin’s service, where Grande delivered a gorgeous rendition of “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman).”
“I’ve got to apologize because I have to brush up,” Ellis said when he joined the pop star onstage after her performance. “When I saw Ariana Grande on the program, I thought that was a new something at Taco Bell.”
The “God Is a Woman” singer, known for her sense of humor, was hardly offended. She laughed and hugged Ellis, before the preacher noted: “Girl, let me give you all your respect. Did you enjoy this icon? She is an icon herself. Come on, make her feel loved.”
The Queen of Soul died on Aug. 16 at age 76 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
