Billie Eilish took the stage at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on Thursday (July 11), where she came face-to-face with one of her childhood idols.
The 17-year-old superstar took to Instagram to share a photo she took backstage with Avril Lavigne. “THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME WHAT I AM,” she wrote in the caption. It’s clear where Eilish has drawn inspiration from the pop veteran, both decked in edgy attire with angsty lyrics.
“Avril Lavigne was everything to me, dude” she recently exclaimed in Pitchfork‘s “Over/Under” segment. “I love Avril Lavigne. I only love her. There’s nothing else there. Just love. Only love. There’s like almost no artists like that. Like Avril Lavigne and Justin Bieber, I only love. Like her, Tyler, Gambino and Bieber, to be honest, made me. I would not be… And Lana, probably. Yeah.
