Nile Rodgers, the legendary songwriter, producer and guitarist, took the spotlight on Feb. 5 in Billboard’s Google+ Hangout, which you can watch right here in the video window above.
Just over a week following Nile Rodgers’ huge night at the GRAMMYs — including his GRAMMY wins and GRAMMY performance with Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams and Stevie Wonder — Rodgers sat down with Billboard for a live video interview that featured a first listen to his new single, “Do What You Wanna Do (IMS Anthem)” — which is forthcoming on Cr2 Records — as well as plenty of discussion of his recent work with Daft Punk and Avicii and more highlights from his long, illustrious career. Rodgers also engaged with his fans during the exclusive chat.
There was, of course, plenty to talk about with Nile, as the past year has been a huge one for the 61-year-old musician. “Get Lucky,” his collaboration with Daft Punk, won just GRAMMYs for record of the year and best pop duo/group performance. Rodgers also laid down licks for “Lay Me Down,” a funky track from Avicii’s chart-topping 2013 album ‘True.’ ??But, Rodgers’ work goes much further back than his collabs with EDM icons. After performing in the house band at Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theatre, Rodgers went on to co-found iconic disco group Chic, who scored some of the biggest hits of the ’70s with songs like “Le Freak” and “Good Times.” Rodgers has also made a name for himself as one of music’s most in-demand producers, having worked with a slew of legendary artists such as Madonna, Duran Duran, Diana Ross and many more.
