After weeks of speculation and thousands of votes in our Reader’s Poll, the results came in during last night’s Grammy Awards, and our readers called Adele’s sweep of the three major awards – Record of the Year (“Rolling In The Deep”), Song of the Year (“Rolling In The Deep”), and Album of the Year ( 21).
Of the four categories in our poll, the only one our readers didn’t pick was Best New Artist, with indie alternative act Bon Iver taking home the trophy over Skrillex, The Band Perry, J. Cole and our reader’s pick Nicki Minaj (who received over 50 percent of the vote).
“Rolling In The Deep” fought off stiff competition in our poll from Bruno Mars’ “Grenade,” which came in second in both the Song and Record of the Year categories, though it wasn’t closer than 8 percent in either. Bon Iver, despite his surprise victory as Best New Artist, came in last in both categories for his song “Holocene,” never garnering more than 3 percent of the tally.
Album of the Year was split more evenly, with Lady Gaga’s Born This Way receiving 26.43 percent and Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans raking in 23.45 percent, though neither could touch Adele’s 34.59 percent. Rihanna’s Loud and Foo Fighters’ Wasting Light trailed behind in single digits, despite the latter group receiving five awards.
