Last week’s flood in downtown Nashville will not deter the Billboard Country Music Summit. A half-dozen elite members of Tennessee’s music publishing community – including ASCAP VP/managing executive Tim DuBois and songwriter Brett James (“Cowboy Casanova,” “Out Last Night”) – will take part in “Publisher’s Roundtable: The Country Song Business In The Digital Age,” at the inaugural Summit June 7-8 at the Hermitage Hotel.
Moderated by Monk Family Music Group president Charlie Monk, the session grapples in part with the challenges and opportunities presented by the changing industry landscape. The panel includes Brian Wright, VP/A&R, Universal Music Group Nashville, plus three well-regarded publishers: Tracy Gershon, senior VP, Warner/Chappell Music Nashville; Ree Guyer-Buchanan, president/owner, Wrensong Publishing/WE Records; and Troy Tomlinson, president/CEO, Sony ATV Music Publishing/Nashville.
Co-sponsored by the Country Music Assn., the event will also examine marketing, the digital revolution, the touring business and the evolving role of record labels, among other topics. Tim McGraw will take part in a keynote Q&A session with Billboard executive director of content and programming for touring and live entertainment Ray Waddell. The event’s closing panel, “Not Your Granddaddy’s Record Label: Will The Last One To Abandon The Old Business Model Please Turn Out The Lights,” will feature Blake Shelton.
