Tom Petty has drafted the Strokes, John Mayer and Frank Black as support acts for the third leg of his North American tour. The run begins with a Sept. 14-15 stand in Chicago and also includes a Sept. 17 appearance at the Austin City Limits Festival. Mayer will open the last show on Oct. 4 in Phoenix.
As with recent shows, Petty will be joined each night by Stevie Nicks for a handful of on-stage collaborations. Having just wrapped a six-show run with Pearl Jam, Petty and the Heartbreakers are off the road until a July 29 show in Portland, Ore.

Rapper DMX and R&B singer Keyshia Cole have lined up separate six-part reality series on BET. Cole’s “The Way It Is” and DMX’s “Soul of a Man” will premiere Wednesday (July 12) at 9 and 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, respectively.
“Soul of a Man” finds DMX roaming the Arizona desert in search of clarity and promises a personal glimpse into his life, childhood, drug habits and legal issues. “The Way It Is” follows Cole to her hometown in Oakland, Calif., and tracks her road to success.
“As previously reported, DMX’s next album, “Year of the Dog, Again” is due Aug. 1 via Sony Urban.
