Reports that have placed Bruce Springsteen in a small role in an as-yet-untitled film due to shoot this summer in New Jersey are untrue, according to a spokesperson for the artist. According to published reports, Springsteen was to portray a DJ who has conversations with the film’s main character, played by Julia Stiles (“Save the Last Dance,” “10 Things I Hate About You”).
Outside of concert and documentary films, Springsteen has made only one big screen appearance, a cameo playing himself in 2000’s “High Fidelity,” which starred John Cusack. The Steven Frears-directed film was based on Nick Hornby’s cult-favorite novel of the same name.

This weekend (March 9-10), VH1 will stage Fairway to Heaven ’02, its eighth annual celebrity pro-am golf tournament to benefit the VH1 Save the Music Foundation. Among the music celebrities due to take part in the event are Backstreet Boys members AJ McLean and Brian Littrell, E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons, singer/songwriter Lisa Loeb, Bon Jovi drummer Tico Torres, the members of Hootie & the Blowfish, and jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis. The event at Miami’s Doral Golf Resort & Spa will also see a reunion of Motley Crue singer Vince Neil and the band’s former drummer Tommy Lee teeing up for the charity. Actors Kyle Mclachlan and Judd Nelson, and former pro football great Lawrence Taylor will also take part in the competition, which will feature such notable golf pros as John Daly, John Cook, and Craig Stadler. Highlights from the event will be broadcast on April 27 on VH1 during a special three-hour edition of “Top 18 Countdown.”

Just after performing its modern rock hit “Bouncing Off the Walls” Wednesday night in Detroit, Sugarcult had to stop its show as the incessant bouncing of fans caused the floor at St. Andrews Hall to cave in, according to a spokesperson for the band. With the crowd uncertain as to what to do, lead singer Tim Pagnotta suggested over the mic, “Why don’t we all go outside and me and Tony [Lovato] from [opening act] Mest and Scott [Russo] from [headliner] Unwritten Law will come out there and play some acoustic songs for you.”Once outside in the freezing night, members of the bands climbed on top of Mest’s trailer and played acoustic songs for the crowd until the police came to break up the scene. The musicians were threatened with arrest if the street wasn’t cleared of the several hundred fans that stuck around to take in the impromptu performance.
The bands continued the tour last night (March 7) in Chicago, and will visit Milwaukee tonight. Unwritten Law is touring in support of its Interscope album “Elva,” which debuted last month at No. 73 on The Billboard 200. Sugarcult is out behind the Ultimatum release “Start Static,” while Mest is promoting the Warner Bros. set “Destination Unknown,” both released last year.
