Mariah Carey has been chosen to sing “The Star Spangled Banner” at the National Football League’s Super Bowl XXXVI, to be played Feb. 3 at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. Carey will join last year’s singers, the Backstreet Boys, on the list of Super Bowl National Anthem performers, which includes such notables as Neil Diamond, Diana Ross, Billy Joel, Whitney Houston, and Garth Brooks.
As previously reported, tickets for the show are $100 and $50, with the more expensive ones offering admission at a post-show party with “the D.” Also appearing at the show is the Naked Trucker, the L.A.-based musical comedy act of David Koechner and Dave Allen.
Tenacious D wraps its stint opening for Weezer and Jimmy Eat World tonight (Dec. 11) in Portland, Maine. The duo has already lined up two dates next month: Jan. 22 at New York’s Roseland Ballroom and Jan. 24 at Toronto’s Guvernment. Tickets for both shows go on sale to the public Friday (Dec. 14), following an Internet presale that starts tomorrow at 1 p.m. EST and ends Thursday at 11 p.m. EST.
