Billboard Bits: Love, Sigur Ros, Crooked Fingers

Reports that Courtney Love is writing a tell-all autobiography are untrue, according to the artist’s representatives. “Courtney Love has received numerous offers to write her autobiography,” her spokesperson tells Billboard.com. “However, reports that she is currently doing so are entirely false.”

Love was said to be gunning for an advance in excess of $500,000 to chronicle her life’s story, which has frequently been tabloid fodder of late. This year alone, Love lost custody of her 12-year-old daughter with late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and has been mired in court cases on charges of assault and drug possession.

As such she was unable to undertake an extensive promotion schedule for her debut Virgin solo album, “America’s Sweetheart,” which has sold just 96,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Icelandic rock outfit Sigur Ros has finished principal recording for its next studio album. “The foundations for all the album’s songs have now been recorded,” reads a post on the group’s official Web site. “The boys are adding layers to the songs and will be joined by the girls of [longtime collaborators] Amina later this week to start recording strings for most of these songs.”

As of last month, Sigur Ros had put down nine songs on tape. “Most of these songs will appear on the new album but some may end up on an EP, or even released online, though this hasn’t been decided quite yet,” the site says.

The as-yet-untitled set is expected in late spring/early summer via Geffen. It will be the follow-up to 2002’s “( ),” which debuted at No. 51 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 220,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Crooked Fingers, led by former Archers Of Loaf frontman Eric Bachmann, will release its fourth full-length album, “Dignity and Shame,” Feb. 22 via Merge. The 12-track set was co-produced by Bachmann with Martin Feveyear (John Wesley Harding, Mark Lanegan) and recorded in Seattle.

Guests include vocalist Lara Meyerrattken, who has recently been playing keyboards in the live incarnation of Luna, plus former Velocity Girl frontwoman Sarah Shannon, who is credited only with “ghost vocals.” Highlights include the melodic gem “Call to Love” and lap-steel inflected “Valerie.”

Crooked Fingers are expected to tour North America in support of the record in March and April. Last month, Bachmann played a handful of solo dates opening for the Delgados.
