Jim Lauderdale, who has released critically acclaimed albums and written songs for George Strait, Dwight Yoakam, and Patty Loveless, will play George Jones in the stage musical ”Stand By Your Man: The Tammy Wynette Story.” Jones and Wynette were married from 1969 to 1975; Wynette died in 1998.
The show opens Sept. 13 at Nashville Ryman Auditorium and runs through October. Actress-singer Nicolette Hart has been offered the role of Wynette, according to Ryman general manager Pam Matthews. Terms are being negotiated.

Adkins was pulled over on Thursday night while driving to his Williamson County home, according to his publicist. ”There was an opened beer bottle in his truck,” the publicist said in a statement. ”Due to the officer’s assumption on the issue of sobriety, Adkins declined to take further tests and he was automatically charged with driving under the influence as provided by Tennessee’s implied consent statutes.”
”Adkins feels embarrassed and concerned about the incident,” the statement continued. “However, as this is a pending matter, he declined to further comment at the request of counsel.”

The Atlanta band — which features former Black Crowes bassist Johnny Colt and former Follow For Now vocalist/guitarist David Ryan-Harris — will judge the submissions and choose a winner, who will receive tickets and backstage passes to a Brand New Immortals show, and work with the group to create a full-length version for posting on the Web.
