Jim Lauderdale, who has released critically acclaimed albums and written songs for George Strait, Dwight Yoakam, and Patty Loveless, will play George Jones in the stage musical ”Stand By Your Man: The Tammy Wynette Story.” Jones and Wynette were married from 1969 to 1975; Wynette died in 1998.
The show opens Sept. 13 at Nashville Ryman Auditorium and runs through October. Actress-singer Nicolette Hart has been offered the role of Wynette, according to Ryman general manager Pam Matthews. Terms are being negotiated.

Every light on the squad car was on when country singer Trace Adkins got pulled over for speeding in Nolensville, Tenn., south of Nashville. The singer was released early Friday on $1,000 bond but is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, violating the open container law, and refusing to take a breath alcohol test. He has a July 23 court date in Williamson County General Sessions.Adkins was pulled over on Thursday night while driving to his Williamson County home, according to his publicist. ”There was an opened beer bottle in his truck,” the publicist said in a statement. ”Due to the officer’s assumption on the issue of sobriety, Adkins declined to take further tests and he was automatically charged with driving under the influence as provided by Tennessee’s implied consent statutes.”
”Adkins feels embarrassed and concerned about the incident,” the statement continued. “However, as this is a pending matter, he declined to further comment at the request of counsel.”
Fans of the Brand New Immortals are invited to submit short-form Flash videos for the group’s new single, “Reasons Why,” in an Internet contest. An MP3 of the song (from the group’s just-released Elektra debut “Tragic Show”), the album cover, and photos of the band are available at the group’s Web site. Flash-savvy fans are welcomed to use these in creating a 30-second, 1 megabyte “web-eo” which can be submitted via email or link.The Atlanta band — which features former Black Crowes bassist Johnny Colt and former Follow For Now vocalist/guitarist David Ryan-Harris — will judge the submissions and choose a winner, who will receive tickets and backstage passes to a Brand New Immortals show, and work with the group to create a full-length version for posting on the Web.
