‘Glee’ Extra Fired For Tweeting Spoilers
Nicole Crowther, who has appeared frequently as an extra on “Glee,” was recently fired from the show for revealing Glee’s own William McKinley High School’s Prom King and Queen via Twitter. Crowther’s dismissal caused an uproar from angry fans, to which the show’s producer Brad Falchuk tweeted at Crowther, “Who are you to spoil something talented people have spent months to create? Hope you’re qualified to do something besides work in entertainment.” ( NME)
Rufus Wainwright to Premiere Opera at Free Show in June
On June 28 at 7pm at New York’s World Financial Center Winter Garden Theater, Rufus Wainwright will perform with the New York City Opera and pianist Kevin Murphy. At this special free show, Rufus will premiere excerpts from his original opera “Prima Donna,” as well as perform some of his favorite arias as part of the River To River Festival. Wainwright’s “Prima Donna” will be performed in full at the New York City Opera in Spring 2012.
Chiddy To Attempt Nine-Hour Rap On MTV O Awards
Chiddy of the hip-hop group Chiddy Bang will attempt to break the Guinness World Records for “Longest Freestyle Rap” and “Longest Marathon Rapping” on MTV’s upcoming O Music Awards. The show, which will be the first online music award show ever, will feature Chiddy attempting to rap for nine hours straight beginning on Thursday (Apr. 28) at 8:30 am ET at OMusicAwards.com. Viewers will also be able to keep track of Chiddy’s performance by following the hashtag #RapWorldRecord on Twitter. ( MTV Buzzworthy)
Wavves Creates Comic Book About ‘Group of Mutant Teenagers’
As a gift “to people who enjoy pot,” Wavves mastermind Nathan Williams revealed via Twitter “something special” for his followers during yesterday’s 4/20 celebration: “Negative Dad” a comic book co-written by Williams and his friend Matt Barajas, with ilustraions by Nicholas Gazin. According to Williams’ tweets, the comic book, which will have at least 12 issues, “is like an extra retarded X-Men” and is likely to come with a cassette tape. (@wavveswavves, Pitchfork)
Social Distortion Premieres Short Film For ‘Machine Gun Blues’
Social Distortion will hold a red carpet premiere for the short film for “Machine Gun Blues” tonight. The California rockers will premiere the video and play an hour-long set, both of which will be streamed live on RollingStone.com, beginning at 11:15pm EST. “Machine Gun Blues” is the first single from the band’s new album, “Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes,” and features frontman Mike Ness as a gangster in 1930s Los Angeles.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to Open ‘Women Who Rock’ Exhibit in May
On May 13, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland will open a new exhibit celebrating women throughout contemporary music history, titled “Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power.” The exhibit, which will feature artifacts from more than 60 female artists important throughout the last century, will kick off with an all-star benefit concert including Wanda Jackson and Cyndi Lauper at the Rock Hall on May 14. Recent artifacts of interest include Lady Gaga’s childhood piano, donated by her parents. (Rock Hall)
