The dates for the 2008 Coachella festival won’t be announced for several weeks, but festival co-creator Paul Tollett of Goldenvoice tells Billboard.com he’s “just starting right now” to seek out talent for the event in the California desert.
“It’s exciting and scary all at the same time,” he says. “You have to try and do well again. We had a really fun year this year. It is always a little daunting to get started. It’s not so obvious which way to go, but we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
The festival’s ability to jumpstart a single act’s career was borne out with the recent success of Daft Punk’s North American tour. The French techno group played its first show in nine years at the 2006 edition of Coachella and drew overwhelmingly rave reviews. “That is a lesson for a band — if you can build yourself to where your show is so great that people are calling everyone around the world saying you got to check that out,” Tollett says.
