Death Cab For Cutie, Keane and Broken Social Scene will lead the bill for the first Bleeding Kansas festival, to be held Aug. 5 at Burcham Park in Lawrence, Kan. The lineup also features Secret Machines, Mates Of State, Lake Trout, the Juan Maclean, Chromeo, the Black Angels, Boy Kill Boy and Murder By Death, with more bands to be added.
Additionally, the festival will offer a local band stage sponsored by radio station KJHK and sponsor free performances later in the day at venues throughout Lawrence. Bleeding Kansas is named after a violent period prior to the Civil War when Kansas wrestled with whether to allow slavery within its borders.

Planet Drum, an all-star percussion ensemble featuring the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, will reunite for a short fall tour in celebration of the 15th anniversary of its self-titled Rykodisc debut. The group, which also includes Zakir Hussain, Sikiru Adepoju, and Giovanni Hidalgo, has not toured in almost a decade.
